🌍💚 Last night, our fantastic Eco Ambassadors proudly presented to the local Green Lives Green Planet Climate Action Group.
They delivered a passionate presentation about their beliefs and values for protecting our planet, sharing the work they have led over the last year to help children at Desford be kind to the environment and make a positive difference.
Our ambassadors also issued a powerful call to action, inviting Green Lives Green Planet members to work alongside them on future environmental projects. It was inspiring to see our young people speaking with such confidence, knowledge and determination.
We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school and lived out our ethos of being kind to the environment. 🌱♻️🌍

What a fantastic way to end the school day!
Our wonderful children absolutely shone in their dance theatre performance this afternoon. From the moment the music started, they performed with confidence, creativity and real joy – a true celebration of their hard work and teamwork.
We were so proud to see them expressing themselves so brilliantly, supporting one another and bringing their performance to life for such a special audience.
Thank you to all the families who joined us – and a huge well done to our amazing children. You were incredible!

🌱✨ Sneak peak…
Something exciting is coming to our school corridors… 👀
Inspired by the incredible work of David Attenborough and the beauty of the natural world, we are creating a brand-new display that celebrates wildlife, creativity, the connection to our planet, and all of this is driven by our Be Kind ethos.
The children are at the heart of it all and have begun making parts for the display as well as having discussions about which animals and what phrases we are going to include on the display.
This is only the beginning - there is still so much more to come!

Today, our school community stepped back in time for a truly unforgettable VE Day Gala as part of Year 5’s Real LiFE mission 🇬🇧✨
From ration books to 1940s outfits, our children looked incredible as they proudly shared their learning, stories and wartime research with some very special guests. The hall was filled with laughter, memories and moments that reminded us just how powerful it is when generations come together ❤️
A huge thank you to the wonderful Co-op for donating the food for our delicious seasonal fruit tarts - and especially to Donna from the store for joining us and supporting the event 🍓🥧
We are also incredibly grateful to @desfordheritage , not only for arranging our amazing visitors - including the inspirational 100-year-old John Weston - but also for the fantastic workshops they delivered to our children back in April. Those sessions brought local wartime history to life and gave the children such a deep understanding of WWII in Desford, which shone through in the thoughtful conversations they shared so confidently today 💬✨
It was so special to welcome Pearl (Mrs Chadwick’s grandma) back into school after her memorable visit to Year 5 in March. Today, she learnt from the children about WWII in Desford - a beautiful reminder that learning truly goes both ways ❤️
A lovely moment was seeing Pete Woche, former deputy headteacher of Desford Primary, reunited with Mrs Phillips - now the current deputy headteacher - who he once taught as a pupil at the very same school. A full-circle moment that perfectly captured the spirit of today: legacy, community and connection across generations ❤️
Today wasn’t just about remembering history.
It was about living it, sharing it and ensuring these stories continue through the voices of our children.
Lest we forget. 🌺

🌍 Celebrating David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday at Desford Community Primary School! 🐾🍃
This week, we have been celebrating the incredible life of Sir David Attenborough as he reaches his 100th birthday.
We have enjoyed an amazing assembly led by our Year 6 Eco-ambassadors, earthy/animal print dress-up, art activities, mindfulness outdoors, an outdoor fact treasure hunt and have been having plenty of thoughtful discussions and appreciation for the world around us.
And this is just the beginning… we have something very exciting to share with you soon! A brand new corridor display inspired by Sir David Attenborough and the natural world. A display that shows all that we are at Desford and our ethos: be kind to yourself, be kind to others, be kind to the environment.

What a fantastic day Year 5 have had today celebrating VE Day! Our real life project this term was to connect our school with the wider community to keep their stories from WW2 alive.
A huge thank you to @desfordheritage for organising our very special visitors, including 100 year old John Weston! The children spent time hearing stories from our visitors about the war, shared their presentations about their learning, made sweet treats to share, took part in a WW2 Desford quiz and ended the day singing some wartime songs. Well done children, you were amazing! ⭐️🇬🇧

Wishing our incredible Year 6 the very best of luck with your SATs next week 🌟
You have worked so hard and we are so proud of each and every one of you.
Remember… these tests don’t measure your kindness, creativity or all the amazing things that make you you.
Just do your best – that’s always enough 💛

Yesterday, our wonderful year 6s found a hedgehog, who was out in daylight. We carefully put him in a box and contacted @digbys_hedgehog_rescue . It turned out it wasn’t the first time that this little fellow had received a helping hand - after being rescued from a drain in Earl Shilton! Luckily, he was tagged so we know is name is ‘Dodger’ - we hope he gets well soon… Well done Year 6!!
