This week in assembly, we spoke with the children about what it means to represent our school and our values when we are out in the community.
Using the idea of “filling buckets”, we explored how our words and actions can have a positive (or negative) impact on others—whether that’s in school, at home, or in places like the park. The children reflected brilliantly on how kindness, respect and inclusion help to build a strong community.
We also talked about making safe choices, including what to do if someone they don’t know well offers them something. Children were reminded to say no, move away and tell a trusted adult.
At Desford, our ethos of Be Kind goes beyond the school gates. We are proud of how our children show this in the world around them.

Year five had a fantastic and thought-provoking experience learning about World War II in Desford 🇬🇧 A huge thank you to Kate and Pat from Desford Heritage for leading such engaging sessions. We explored what life was like during the war and learned about the nine soldiers from Desford who sadly lost their lives. The children showed great respect and curiosity as they researched and presented information about these individuals, helping to keep their stories alive.
During the workshop, pupils also stepped into the shoes of those on the homefront by interviewing for the role of an air raid warden and taking part in an air raid practice, bringing history to life in a truly memorable way.
We are also very grateful to Bosworth Academy for sending their year 12 history students to support us throughout the day – your help made a real difference.
A memorable experience for everyone involved.❤️ @desfordheritage @bosworthacademy

Last night, our Race Equity Group representative, Mrs Ajetunmobi, attended the annual Stephen Lawrence Anti-Racism Lectures with members of our senior leadership team and staff from other schools in our trust.
As a school and as part of our Trust, we believe that learning doesn’t stop with our children — it continues with us as adults. If we want to lead with integrity on issues of equity and race, we must first commit to educating ourselves.
The powerful speeches and thought-provoking panel discussions were both humbling and inspiring. The messages shared will not stay in the lecture hall — they will shape how we lead, how we reflect, and how we continue to develop our curriculum.
This ongoing learning strengthens our commitment to ensuring a clear pathway for our children — one that enables them to grow into informed, compassionate upstanders who actively contribute to their communities.
We are incredibly proud to be part of a school and a Trust that place such high value on issues that truly matter — because this is about more than education; it’s about shaping a fairer, more equitable future.

Jungle Jo came in to visit Year 1 yesterday. The children were amazing, being very brave and also asking lots of brilliant questions to learn more about the animals 🐸🐌🐍🕷️ #desfordprimaryschool #year1 #junglejo #animals #science

Our Stephen Lawrence Ambassadors, supported by Mrs Ajetunmobi and Miss Valentine, have led a powerful week of activities celebrating the legacy of Stephen Lawrence and raising awareness about racism across our school and wider community.
From leading a thoughtful assembly, to organising a sponsored run and selling bracelets, our Ambassadors have shown real leadership, courage and commitment to making a difference.
We are incredibly proud of the way they have lived out our values—standing up for what is right, showing respect for all, and reminding us that everyone belongs.
Together, we continue to learn, reflect and take action. 💛

💛 Community Heroes at Desford Community Primary School 💛
Today, we were incredibly proud to present Daisy and Carter with a Community Hero Award for their outstanding kindness and courage earlier this week.
While in the park earlier this week, they came across an elderly couple who had sadly fallen and were unable to get up. Without hesitation, Daisy and Carter stepped in to help—offering reassurance, making sure an ambulance was called, and supporting the couple until they were safely on their way home.
Their actions showed such maturity, compassion and a genuine care for others. They truly lived out our Be Kind ethos—being kind to others when it mattered most.
We couldn’t be prouder of them. 🌟
A wonderful reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.

We are so excited to welcome our new starters and families to Desford Community Primary School this September 💛
Our Year 6 children wanted to share a special message to help you feel ready for your next big step by making a video and giving you a mini tour of the school. Starting school is a huge moment, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves.
At our school, we believe in being kind to ourselves, others and the environment—and from the very first day, our children are supported to feel happy, safe and part of our school family.
We can’t wait to meet you all soon 👋

🎶 What an incredible evening! 🎶
Our children had the amazing opportunity to perform at De Montfort Hall alongside several other schools, singing a fantastic selection of songs from the movies. 🌟
After an afternoon of rehearsals and a visit to Attenborough Arts Centre for a chance to explore, the children took to the stage and performed brilliantly to a packed audience.
We are so proud of how they represented our school—with confidence, enthusiasm and real joy.
A huge thank you to our staff for their support, to parents for cheering them on, and most importantly to our wonderful children for making it such a special experience.
